I don't have any dog in this fight (unlike Michael Vick...) but no defendants were vindicated here, spd. Bates dismissed the case on a threshold issue, that there is no constitutional remedy available to them.
That said, I think they should go away, leave us alone, and let us worry about the real travesties underway
