Bottom of the 9th, and it's Yanks 8, Red Sox. 4. Thank you, Mr. '61.

Woo hoo. The ribs we've been marinating since breakfast will taste even better now that we have a side of roasted RSN chestnuts to accompany them:)

P.S. Too bad about that threesome, spd. Not. Tomorrow is the new season.

Is that the good news or the bad?

Gloaters will be shot.
Survivors will be shot again.

I appreciate that the Yanks had a great late-season run while the Sox went to sleep. But then the Yankees won the AL East last year.
Remember?

Right now I have to go be "pleasent" at some stupid party where I will be the only one who gives 2 sh*ts about baseball.

Redrum. Redrum. Redrum. Redrum. Redrum.

It's not likely I'll be allowed to forget that fact while you walk the earth.

As for tonight, good luck...to the hosts:)

See you again tomorrow, 7PM sharp! "Same chair, same perfume, same [score]."

I'll bring the bullsh*t.

Did you realize that the Yanks/Red Sox season series would be used to decide AL East if the two teams were tied? I sure didn't. I thought that if we both had the same W-L record after Sunday's game, that we'd have a playoff game on Monday--even if the Indians were out. I ain't complaining but learning that we clinched the AL East today came as a big surprise.

So now I guess it's true: Tomorrow's game at Fenway really is all about you, after all:)

They called it "a quick in the rules."
Funny how those quirks work.

Well, quirk or not, I think it's a good thing all around because if we hadn't clinched the East yesterday, I would have felt compelled to remind you of this momentous day in the history between the Red Sox and the Yankees. But now I don't have to. Now you can play the Yanks without fearing that your scarred and stony Red Sox heart might be ripped apart and stomped on again as it was 27 years ago. Now I don't have to mention the D word, or the one-game playoff for the AL East at Fenway, or the fact that the Yanks were down 2-0 in the 7th inning, or that there were two outs when D stepped up to the plate, or that when his home run sailed over the Green Monster it ended your post-season hopes, or even summon up Bill White's memorable call:

"Deep to left! Yastrzemski will not get it! It's a home run! A three-run homer by Bucky Dent! And the Yankees now lead by a score of 3-2!"

and remind you that it took another 8 years for you to reach the post season playoffs. Nope, now I don't have to mention any of that. Phew, that's a relief.

Now I'll just say "Go Sox," and leave it at that:)

There is some wacky karma in the air today. Yanks want the Indians to win. Indians want the Red Sox to lose. Angels want the Red Sox to win. Red Sox want the White Sox to win. White Sox want the ...who knows. My hair hurts.

Anyway, looks like you might have a shot at the Wild Card, top of 7th, and Indians trail 3-1. In that case, you'll head to Chicago, and we'll head to Anaheim, right?

My hair still hurts.

Slam the door.
10-1 Sox in 7th should result in the Yanks and Sox tied...but of course there is that "quirk" giving the Ynaks the Divisional Championship.

portia said...

I knew you would bring that up!

Congratulations, anyway. It's a well-deserved berth no matter how you clinched it. See you in a couple of weeks? Anything's possible:)

The last act is bloody, however fine the rest of the play. Pascal

I'll bring the knives.

Good. We can use one of them to cut the Boston Creme Pie you owe me. I'll even supply the Yankees cap you promised to wear:)

Hey, a bet's a bet. And don't be telling me that you didn't lose because the Red Sox advanced, or that our records were tied, counselor. I'm on to you.

Now, if you want to up the ante for the playoffs, I'm open to suggestion...as long it involves food. Good, expensive food.

Say, a couple of lobsters flown in from Gloucester?

spd rdr said...

We took 2 out of three!

portia said...

That'll cost you.
A couple of lobsters, and a New York Strip.

Ha!

...and you have to wear Jeter's shirt. For a day.
