A Mother's Lullaby
I wish you bluebirds in the spring
To give your heart a song to sing
And then a kiss, but more than this
I wish you love
And in July a lemonade
To cool you in some leafy glade
I wish you health
And more than wealth
I wish you love Happy Mother's Day.
Miss you. Still

That was quite beautiful, Portia.
Thak you, Mother, for who I am.
I'm sure she misses you too. Moms always have speical place in their arms that remembers where each baby once rested, Portia :)
Even when they can't type worth a darn.
I am tired today :)
Actually, I'm at my mother's now, for Mothers Day Weekend, etc.
(In Colorado)
She moved out West in '89...
Well, don't tell her anything about "Brokeback Mountian," camo...you know how suc things upset them.
That's a sweet thought, Cass. Thank you.
My mother used to sing those lyrics to me when I was a little girl so they've always been special to me. It wasn't until I listened to Frank's "It Might As Well Be Swing" album when I older that I heard the song's next stanza and realized it was actually a "torch" song, albeit, a damn good one:
My breaking heart and I agree that you and I could never be,
So with my best, my very best, I set you free.
I wish you shelter from the storm, a cozy fire to keep you warm,
Most of all, when snowflakes fall, I wish you love.
All kinds of love. A whole gang of love....
Either way, in my book, it's a love song...of sorts. Still.
Funny. I always sang love songs to my babies too, but that always seemed hopeful to me. My husband and I were apart a lot, and it seemed like a way to enfold the boys in our love, even if we couldn't both be there.
This was one of my favorites:
Well the sun is slowly sinking down
And the moon is slowly rising
And this old world must still be spinnin' round
And I still love you.
So close your eyes
You can close your eyes
It's all right.
I don't know no love songs
And I can't sing the blues anymore.
But I can sing this song
And you can sing this song when I'm gone...
It won't be long before another day.
And we're gonna have a good time.
And no one's going to take that time away:
You can stay as long as you you like.
So close your eyes
You can close your eyes
It's all right.
I don't know no love songs
And I can't sing the blues anymore.
But I can sing this song
And you can sing this song when I'm gone."
You have a huge heart Portia. Your Mom must have loved you very, very much.
